SAN FRANCISCO – (Nov. 14, 2012) – Johnson Controls, the global leader in building efficiency, will join more than 40,000 global professionals this week at Greenbuild 2012, the world’s largest conference and exposition dedicated to green buildings. Johnson Controls will showcase its newest technologies that increase energy efficiency, improve building performance and provide critical information to keep buildings energy efficient“Sustain and maintain – that’s what our new technologies and solutions do for buildings -- making them more energy efficient and keeping them that way. Our new technologies give owners the information to see more and do more with their facilities,” said Clay Nesler, vice president, global energy and sustainability, Building Efficiency, Johnson Controls. “Unlocking information allows building managers to act on making their buildings greener.”
Updates to the company’s award-winning Panoptix☻ solution were unveiled at this year’s expo, providing more opportunities for building owners to collect information that can address improved efficiency, sustainability and operations. Updates include a software development community with building data, tools and support for developers to create and market new applications. Five initial partner-developed applications will be available for purchase in the new Panoptix marketplace, which provides a global venue to sell applications to building owners and operators. Applications were created and available from EnergyAi, Lucid, EnergyPoints, FirstFuel and T4G.
“Johnson Controls is connecting big data with big ideas to create more choices and access for building owners,” said Laura Farnham, vice president, building technology and service, Johnson Controls. “This open platform allows developers to do what they do best - create applications. As a result, building owners and facility managers will have access to a growing list of choices to manage their facilities.”
Johnson Controls will also showcase its flagship Metasys☻ building management system. This technology is helping more than 100,000 customers globally achieve essential control to ensure their building systems -- such as HVAC, fire safety, security and lighting -- work together.
Also announced this week:
First PACE Project in San Francisco: Earlier in the week, Johnson Controls announced its contract to implement the first large commercial project using Property-Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) bond financing at the Port of San Francisco’s historic property at Pier 1, which is the corporate headquarters for Prologis Inc. Johnson Controls expects the retrofit project to reduce annual energy costs by over $98,000 and reduce purchased energy by 32 percent. Upgrades include retrofits to 1,500 lighting fixtures, a 200-kilowatt rooftop solar array and improvements to the building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
New LEED Fellow Lauded: Johnson Controls is also celebrating Kimberly Hosken’s elevation to LEED Fellow -- one of the 43 members of the USGBC’s 2012 class of LEED Fellows. Hosken joins an elite group of the world’s most distinguished green building professionals, who are selected through a peer nomination and portfolio review process. Johnson Controls has helped its customers to secure green building certification for more than 20 million square feet of building space worldwide. Johnson Controls also "walks the talk" at its own global headquarters in Glendale, Wis., which represents the world’s largest concentration of LEED Platinum buildings (four) on one campus. The company's Brengel Technology Center in Milwaukee was one of the first eight pilot projects that pioneered the application of the rating system, receiving a LEED Silver rating in 2001.
Over the past decade, more than 1,000 Johnson Controls employees have achieved LEED credentials.
Additional technologies and highlights at this year’s show include:
Grid Integrated Demand Resources (formerly EnergyConnect): Our award-winning GridConnect® demand response platform makes it easy to participate in demand response programs. We help our customers become active smart grid participants with a new revenue stream from their utility. Plus, by combining building automation with automated demand response (AutoDR), customers can maximize the value of smart energy management without impacting business operations.
Central Plant Optimization™: A new approach in the design, installation and operation of a central chilled water plant that can reduce energy consumption by up to 60 percent. Central plants are accountable for more than 35 percent of the energy required to run a building.
YVAA: Air-cooled variable-speed screw chiller that lowers annual energy costs by as much as 50 percent. The YVAA chiller makes a facility more sustainable by limiting the amount of refrigerant released into the atmosphere and minimizing power plant CO2 emissions. The YVAA line is compliant with U.S. Green Building Council LEED® specifications and helps customers meet regulations to reduce energy consumption and environmental footprints.
YVWA: Water-cooled screw chiller that helps cut energy costs and carbon emissions by as much as 30 percent. The YVWA chiller’s proprietary evaporator reduces refrigerant charge by as much as 30 percent compared to conventional designs, further reducing the amount of refrigerant needed.
